Neil and Al were buddies since they were young teenagers. They worked together on the drilling rigs, and partied together. When we lived in Edmonton, we saw Al a lot, as often they were on the same rig. Al referred to Neil as “Fieb”. We moved to Winnipeg for a few years, but they kept in touch by phone. Then in 1992, we came back to my (Val) hometown of Fort St. John, BC, and they still kept in touch. Most of the time, Al and I would talk for awhile and then, he’d talk to Fieb. Al even came up here with Jack Burke one year, as they were working in the area.. Even though Neil quit drinking in 1987, they were still friends. I always enjoyed our talks, and feel sad that he’s gone and I hope he is in a better place.

Al, I can not tell you how much I miss our telephone conversations. Some were good, some not. But we always ended telling each other “I love you”. I wish things had been different for you and Crystal and that you had the chance to really get to know one another better. She loved you. I’m glad you felt comfortable enough to tell me how you felt about life, etc. I truly hope you find peace now, as I know you suffered in silence in life. Rest In Peace..
