Please accept our deepest condolences. Ron was a colleague and avid sportsman with whom I shared many hours especially playing floor hockey. We shared many good times and positive memories from our teaching time at Shilo. Ron's legacy is the contribution he made to the lives of his students. He will be fondly remembered by many people.

Ron was a college friend , a roommate of the students banished to the old Clark Hall at Brandon College. Always enjoyed meeting and chatting with him, especially when he attended Dave's hockey games. Saddened to read of his passing. Our sincere condolences to the family. Bruce & Sandi Gullett

I will never forget Mr. Smith, he was my grade 7 teacher in Shilo MB. Being in a military family we moved out east and I often thought about Mr Smith and what he was up too. Its obvious he left an impact on many he taught. Condolences to his family .

Mr. Smith had such an influence on my life – I will remember his smile always. While he was teaching in Shilo I had the privilege of being his student for a number of classes as well as was coached by him in sports. The life of an army kids isn’t always easy but Mr. Smith never let us dwell on this all while respecting our journey when family and friends moved or went on tours. When new students arrived his gift of creating community among us shined through. He build each of us separately giving us tools for success down the line – no matter how hard we tried to resist them. He never gave up on us, even when we gave up on ourselves – we weren’t a student number or a pay cheque – he made us feel important. Qualities like this are very hard to come by.

Rest in Peace Mr. Smith. Your memory is carried across the world by your students

Thank you Marie. Ron held your brother, dad and the rest of the family very close to his heart.
I heard some of the stories and antics they got up to so many times I could tell them myself.
With fondness, Shirley

What we have learnt from his wonderful sense of humour will make us all a little better. Well done our friend, well done.
