Mrs. Alda Marie Sitko (nee Kirkup) passed away at the Fairview Home in Brandon on Saturday, July 5, 2025, at the age of 96.
Alda was born on December 29, 1928, in Elva, Manitoba, the youngest of nine children born to Bertie and Margaret Kirkup. She enjoyed having so many siblings to have fun with.
Alda spent the majority of her life in Melita until moving to Brandon around the year 2000. She married Edward Sitko on October 4, 1947. During her years in Melita, Alda worked as a telephone operator, as a store clerk in a clothing store, and at the Melita Health Centre. She enjoyed the company of her dogs that she and Edward had in Melita. Alda was a member of the Victoria United Church (she enjoyed being part of the Junior Choir in her younger years), was a member of Girl Guides as a youth, was a member of the Rebekah Lodge in Melita and Brandon, was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Ladies Auxiliary, and was a member of the Ladies Orange Benevolent Association for 35 years. Alda’s activities during her life were dancing, curling, knitting, crocheting, gardening, reading, playing cards, and puzzling. She continued her love of dancing until 2018, with the Golden Swingers in Brandon.
Alda was predeceased by her husband, Edward; by her parents, Bertie and Margaret Kirkup; by her siblings, Mae (Rob) Coates, Cecil (Eva) Kirkup, Irene (German) Davis, Cyrus (Margaret) Kirkup, Eva (Julian) Toso, Jack (Edythe) Kirkup, Ella (Lew) Miner, and Orma (George) Minshull; and in-laws in the Sitko family.
Alda is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
The funeral service was held at the Melita Legion Hall (Main Street), Melita, MB. on Wednesday, July 16, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Wayne Unger officiating. The interment followed at the Melita Cemetery.
