It is with deep love and fond remembrance that we honour the life of Alice Mae McKennitt, who passed away peacefully at Sunset Haven in Carnduff, Saskatchewan on Sunday, March 16, 2025 with her beloved daughter-in-law Susan by her side. Alice was born on February 9, 1930 to Ernest John and Ethel Grace McLean. She was the youngest of 3 daughters.
Alice was a woman of many talents & passions. She had a deep love for reading, sewing, knitting and quilting and was always busy creating somethings beautiful. She cherished time spent with her family and found joy when we were all together.
Her career was multifaceted as were her many talents. Alice began as a legal secretary before joining her husband Mack in business, managing the books and supporting his cattle business. Over the years, she also took on accounting roles and worked in several clothing boutiques, where her sense of style never went unnoticed. Always the best-dressed, she had a keen eye for fashion and a natural talent for decorating.
Beyond her work and creativity, Alice was a gifted cook and baker, known for her famous brown cake and butter tarts – sweet treats that became family traditions and were expected at every gathering. Her incredible work ethic was shaped by her upbringing on the farm, where she learned to work hard and persevere from an early age. These qualities defined her throughout her life, making her an inspiration to all who knew her.
Alice leaves behind one crazy family who works hard, plays hard, and loves each other deeply, in-spite-of all our differences. She will be deeply missed and forever cherished, in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing her.
Alice is survived by her son, Rick McKennitt (Susan) and daughter, Kara Pfingsten (Todd); grandchildren, Tasha (Corey) Brett (Chandelle) and Bryan (Colleen), Chris (Kayla) James (Jacqueline) and Brent (Chelsea), Charlotte (Trevor) Thomas and Samuel; great-grandchildren, Noah, Branson, Meadow, Atticus, Tristan, Lexus, Alena, Emerson, Paisley, Brynlee, Kaylin, Rylan, Tegan, Rylee, and Carter.
Alice is preceded in death by parents, Ernest and Ethel McLean; husband, Robert (Mack) McKennitt; son, Kevin McKennitt; daughter-in-law, Jacqueline and sisters, Edna Grace & Hilda Marie.
A graveside service will take place at the Carnduff Cemetery, this spring. In Alice’s words, “No muss, no fuss. See you all later. Love Mom”
