Beverley Barsness Obituary

Beverley Ann Barsness of Melita, formerly of Pierson, Manitoba, beloved wife of Dwayne Barsness passed away at the Deloraine Hospital on Sunday, December 28th, 2025 at the age of 75.

Beverley was born August 29th, 1950 in Pipestone, MB to David and Olabel Greenlay. She grew up in Pipestone, MB alongside her two brothers. Beverley attended school in Reston, and had a love to write and figure skate in her younger years.

On August 29, 1970 Beverley married the love of her life, Dwayne Barsness. Together they built a life on the farm, where Beverley devoted herself to raising their five daughters. She found great joy in caring for her family and was known for her love of baking and cooking, especially for her homemade buns, which were second to none.

Beverley was incredibly talented and creative. She loved to sew and could make anything from a pencil case to a wedding dress. She lovingly made countless items for her children and grandchildren, including grad dresses, flower girl dresses, and even a wedding dress. True to her craft, she was rarely without a sewing kit and tape measure tucked into her purse.

Beverley was deeply involved in the 4-H community. She served as leader with the Melita Beef Club and later supported the girls when they joined the Tilston Beef Club. Even after her daughters finished showing, Beverley continued to volunteer her time, faithfully attending local achievements and the Melita Rally to help score judging cards, judge record books, and assist wherever she was needed.

Later in life, when most of the girls were grown, Beverley started working at the Melita Bakery. There she formed a special group of friends who became known as the “Golden Girls”. This adventurous group enjoyed many memorable trips together, including travels to  Churchill, Las Vegas, the East Coast and a trip to Alaska. Whether it was a big adventure or a local event, she always cherished time spent with her dear friends. She was always up for adventure taking several trips with Dwayne through the years and her last trip to Norway with her daughters and some of their families.

Above all else, Beverley adored her children, grandchildren, and great grandchild. She made every effort to attend their events - 4-H shows, hockey and baseball games, dance, milk runs, Agribition and more - always offering her love, support, and encouragement.

She was predeceased by her parents, David and Olabel Greenlay; in-laws, Olav and Edith Barsness; grandson, Anthony Gray and numerous brothers and sisters in-law.

She is survived by her husband, Dwayne of Melita; five daughters: Cynthia (Lee) Wirgau of Narcisse, MB., Cheryl (Geoff) Cooper of Brandon, Victoria (Nicolas) Nowazek of Minto, Wendy (Derek) Kitz of Langenburg, and Melissa Barsness (Mark Hobden) of Winnipeg; ten grandchildren: Riley, Brooklyn and Brady Wirgau, Tiffany (Bailey) Addison, Brittany (Evan) Walker, Gary, Dylan and Elizabeth Nowazek, Thayden & Aaraley Kitz; and one great-granddaughter, Abigail Walker; two brothers, Murray (Helen) Greenlay of Regina and Glen (Cindy) Greenlay of Melita and families; three sisters in law, Carol Geddes of Thunder Bay, Dorene Hatch of Brandon, and Doris Zarubin of Yorkton; two brothers in law, Glen (Marilyn) Barsness of Stony Mountain, and Alan (Hilda) Barsness of Winnipeg, MB; and many nieces and nephews and great friends.

A private service to celebrate Beverley’s life was held on Friday, January 2, 2026. Interment will take place at the Pipestone Cemetery in the Spring of 2026.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to Deloraine Palliative Care or Deloraine Cancer Care, Box 447, Deloraine, MB. R0M 0M0.

The family would like to thank all of the medical professionals at the Deloraine Health Centre and Cancer Care Centre in Deloraine, Manitoba and the Deloraine Palliative Care Team for their compassion and care during a very difficult time.
