C. Barbara (Vigrass) McKnight

August 19, 1935 ~ September 21, 2021 (age 86) 86 Years Old

C. Barbara (Vigrass) (Cunningham) McKnight of Oxbow, SK passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 21, 2021.  Barb leaves to mourn her daughters and sons-in-law Valerie (Val) and Cam McNab (Oxbow, SK) and Karen and Neil Frankiewitz (Regina, SK) and granddaughters Alayna (Ivan Abano) and Lindsey (Jared Byers) McNab and Mya Frankiewitz.   Barb is also survived by her brothers Laurence Vigrass and Howard (June) Vigrass and numerous nieces and nephews.

Barb was predeceased by her first husband, Richard (Dick) Cunningham (1974), second husband Kenneth McKnight (2008) and son Kevin Cunningham (2006), her parents Victor and Anna Vigrass, and sisters and brothers-in-law Ruth (Orville) Hetland, Lillian (Frank) McConnell, Margarite (Peggy) (Sam) Burke and Louise (Irv Labovich, Frank) Szpanski , sister-in-law Glenna Vigrass, Ken’s mother Florence McKnight and sister Lina (Jake) Romich, and niece Judy (Hetland) Roy.

Barbara was born on August 19, 1935 in Melfort, SK and raised on the family farm outside of Pathlow. She attended grade school in Pathlow and then went to the U of S where she received her teaching certificate.  While teaching in Prince Albert she met and married Dick in 1959.  They lived in PA and St. Albert, AB before settling in Saskatoon, SK in 1966.  After Dick’s passing, Barb and her children moved to Frobisher in 1976 where she took on the principalship and taught grades 6, 7, and 8.  In 1980 Barb married Ken McKnight and she and her three children moved to the farm west of Frobisher.  Barb was an active community member serving on numerous boards and participating in many activities in the United/Union Church, Royal Canadian Legion and health region.  Barb and Ken lived on the farm until the fall of 2006 when they moved into their newly built home in Oxbow.  Barb resided in Oxbow, except for one year living at the Lampman Health Centre, until her passing.

The family wishes to acknowledge the love, devotion, and companionship shown to our mom by those who provided daily care and support at the Bow Valley Villa and Galloway Health Centre LTC. 

A public graveside funeral service was held at the Frobisher Cemetery, Frobisher, SK. on Monday, September 27, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Jackie van't Voort officiating. Following the service a time of refreshments and visiting took place at the Union Church in Frobisher.
