Obituary

It is with heavy hearts we announce the sudden passing of Mr. Charlie Jacobson of Oxbow, on Wednesday, March 29, 2023 at the age of 70 years.

Charles was born in Tacoma, WA and was baptized at St. John’s Lutheran in Spokane, WA.    He was confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran in Flaxton, ND where he was a member and elder until the church’s disbandment.  Since 2014 he attended St. John Lutheran in Frobisher, SK.  Charlie was a man of deep faith and prayed for his family, friends, community, and the world at large daily.

His love of farming started when he was very young on his peddle-powered tractor.  He always wanted to be with his dad on the farm and even hitched a ride from Flaxton to the farm at Northgate.  Neighbors would do a double take at the driverless tractor moving through the field but it was just a pint-sized Charlie learning the trade.  Farming was his passion and he had no intention of fully retiring from the life he loved.

In addition to farming, Charlie spent many years working in the oilfield in Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Alberta, North Dakota, Montana, and Wyoming.  He cherished all the experiences and had many lifelong friends he met through the work.

He met the love of his life, JoAnn Johnson, when they were seven years old and harassed her for her attention throughout their childhood.  They were married for fifty years and continued to be best friends.  There was nothing Charlie wouldn’t do for her.

Charlie’s family was his whole world.  He had daily visits on the phone with his son to settle all the world’s problems.  His travels always involved family, from snowmobiling in Yellowstone to 4-wheeling in Arizona.

Anyone who knew Charlie knew his generous and caring nature.  He would drop anything to help family, friend, or neighbor.  Charlie could talk to anyone and his outgoing and gregarious nature will be profoundly missed.

He was predeceased by his father, Harold Jacobson.

Charlie is survived by his loving wife, JoAnn of Oxbow; daughter, Sheri (Kevin) Jenkins of Spokane, WA (children, Jacob, Joshua, and Ada); son, Brant (Jamie) Jacobson of Harwood, ND (children, Sofia and Ellamarie); mother, Marie Jacobson of Flaxton, ND; three sisters, Corrine (Ken) Bruns of Beaver Crossing, NE, Donna (Mike) Schmit of Kenmare, ND, and Gail Jacobson of Bragg Creek, AB.

Charlie loved flowers and looked forward to driving through Oxbow every summer to appreciate the beautiful hanging baskets.  The family asks that if donations are made, they be for flowers for others to enjoy, please send your donation to the: Oxbow Flower Committee, Box 64 Oxbow, SK. S0C 2B0

Interment will take place at the Flaxton Cemetery, Flaxton, ND at a later date.

A service to celebrate Charlie’s life will be held on Wednesday, April 5, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. from the St. Peter Lutheran Church, Oxbow, SK., with Pastor Adrian Kramer officiating.
