Dallas Elaine (Pummell) Smith

Dallas Elaine Smith (nee Pummell) of Carievale, SK passed away peacefully in the early hours of Tuesday, October 25, 2022 at the age of 88. Dallas was born April 4, 1934 at Hornchurch, Essex, England to Robert and Eva (Fletcher) Pummell.  Before coming to Canada she married Peter Mahoney. They immigrated in 1957 and had two sons, Shaun and Erin Mahoney both born in Canada.

After losing her first husband in 1963, she married T. Alex Smith of Carievale in 1965.  Dallas and Alex had two sons, Matthew and Mark Smith.

Dallas worked hard all her life. She worked at many jobs including at a doctor's office, housekeeping, childcare, and waitressing at the Dew-Drop Inn. She owned her own dress shop and was a seamstress and tailor in Carievale. Dallas and Alex owned and operated a dairy farm for nearly 25 years, and then continued mixed beef and grain farming until their retirement.

Dallas was a great cook. She would bake her own bread, buns and decorate cakes for weddings as well as provide meals for all the farm workers, family members or neighbors who might stop by for a visit. She loved spending time with her grandchildren. In her spare time, she would knit, crochet, draw, paint, and make various craft items. 

Dallas was very involved in the community, belonging to the many organizations including the Carievale and District Board of Trade and the Newlyn Club.

Dallas was predeceased by her parents, Robert and Eva (Fletcher) Pummell; first husband, Peter Mahoney; in-laws, Alexander and Margaret Smith; daughter-in-law, Donna Tegart (Shaun); son, Shaun Mahoney; sister, Margaret Beard; grand-daughter, Kara Smith as well as many other relatives and close friends.

Dallas leaves to mourn her passing husband, Alex Smith; daughter-in-law, Kristin (late-Shaun) Mahoney; son, Erin Mahoney; son, Matthew (Evelyn) Smith; grandson, Wesley (Rachelle) Smith, great-grand-daughters, Madison, Callie and Alexandra Smith; grandson, Connor Smith; son, Mark (Linda Thauberger-Smith) and numerous relatives and friends.

A private family celebration of Dallas' life will be held at a later date.
