I had the privilege of meeting Darlene because the work that I do. From the first moment, we hit it off and she quickly became one of my favorite clients. She had told me a story during one of our visits about the purchase of a vehicle, the first she had to buy on her own after Ross passed. She didn't want to buy a vehicle unless it was white, Ross always bought a white vehicle. She found a vehicle she loved but it didn't come in white. While speaking with a friend, her friend told her that loved ones that have passed communicate to us in various ways but leaving dimes in places was a sign. Soon after, she returned to the dealership, resigned to the fact that she would not end up with the vehicle she loved so she could get a white one. She decided she would sit in the vehicle one more time to make her decision. She told me she sat there, holding the steering talking to Ross, asking him what to do when she looked down and between the 2 front seats was a dime. She knew then and there that she had to buy that vehicle.
This story stuck with me. I thought about it often. 2 years later, my husband and I found ourselves shopping for a house for our ever growing family. We looked at many houses but I had always been drawn to the first house we looked at. This house had been on the market for over 1 month so we weren't sure. We kept wondering why no one else had scooped it up, it was beautiful. We decided to return for the 2nd open house. As I walked through one of the bedrooms, I told my husband that it would be the perfect size for our baby who would be born in 2 months. We were just about to walk out of the room when I noticed something shiny. When I looked closer, I saw a dime. I nearly cried. I thought of Darlene right away. As we continued through the house, I found a dime in all the bedrooms. I knew right then that this was our house. The next day, I called Darlene to tell her. She told me that my grandma, my guardian angel was telling me to stop my search and buy that house.
My kids have since picked up the dimes, put them in their piggy banks and I went a while without thinking about it again. One day, I was having a rough day, I spoke to my grandma in heaven, asking why I had bought this house, it was so much to clean, had I made a mistake. I took a break and went to the kitchen to make a cup of coffee. When I hit the brew button, I saw something shiny.......a dime. I knew then, it was meant to be and all would be good again, and it was.
Darlene was an amazing, personable, funny and energetic woman who made a lasting impression on me. I will cherish her memory forever. I hope to see her dime, if it wasn't her who left it for me last week. She will leave you one too.
From my family to yours, our deepest condolences and sympathies.

My sincere condolences to Darlene's family. She was always quick to volunteer and to lend a hand in support of so many causes. I will miss our times spent working together on Palliative Care projects and our lunches out. She was a great lady and her absence will be sorely felt in our community. May she rest in peace.

Darlene was a dear lady who loved people and was quick to connect with me. Her Grandma Lawrence was our neighbour in Pierson when I was young. She was our common ground. Also, we would share many good times as we curled one another in the Tri-Lite league.
Our sincere condolences to your family with the passing of your dear Mom, Grandma, Sister, and Aunt. She will be missed.
Sincerely, Joyce & Murray Davies and the Ken Lee family
