David Herbert Fernell

Mr. David Fernell of Simpson, SK. passed away peacefully at the Pasqua Hospital, Regina, SK. on Wednesday, May 19, 2021 at the age of 84.

David was born on June 4th, 1936. He always joked about getting half of his Grade 12.....Grade 6. Although, much later, he proudly attained a Grade 10 level, by continuing his education. Dave was employed by Common Wealth Drilling, and after many years as a Derrick Hand he attained Driller status. He travelled far and wide in Canada for employment, living, and recreational opportunities, thus creating a strong family tradition. He was a gifted speaker and salesman and became his own boss with General Contracting & Painting Services, which involved all of his boys. He also owned his own Caterpillar (Catskinning Bush) and for many years owned a family operated Furnace & Duct Cleaning Service. In his ''retirement years" he never stopped coming up with business strategies. Although he did take the time for hobbies, such as genealogy, art work, memorabilia collecting, writing short stories, and enjoying the great outdoors. He also enjoyed star gazing and moon watching. He worried about others before himself and his deep family connection inspired him most of all. Dad wanted to let everyone know that he enjoyed his life and wanted to be remembered as "himself."

David is survived by his four sons, Allen (Al) Fernell (Roberta) and their children, Levi (Cecelia) (great-granddaughters, Lily and Myah), Caleb, and Madison (Cooper); Derrick (Duke) Fernell (Sharon), and his daughter, Ashley; James (Jim) Fernell (Darlene) and their children, James, Nicole (Liam) (great-granddaughter, Alirah), and Char-Lee; Jodi (Joe) Fernell, left to adopt David's cat, Foxy; also numerous nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents, Percy and Myrtle Fernell; siblings, Eva, Gordon, Shirley, Elizabeth (Betty), John (Bill), Agnes (Aggie) and Harold (Harry); his first wife, Shirlee (nee Bruce), mother to the four boys; second wife, Gloria (nee McLeod); grandchildren, Rory and Seth Fernell.

A private family graveside service was held at the Carnduff Cemetery, Carnduff, SK. on Saturday, May 22, 2021.

David's pallbearers will be grandchildren, Levi, Ashley, Caleb, Madison, and an honourable mention for Char-Lee. Michael, Tyler, Jim, and Joe will be considered honorary pallbearers.

Donations in memory of David can be made to a charity of one's choice, the Canadian Sepsis Foundation, towards future entrepreneurs, or individuals requiring funding to start their own business.
