David Carlyle Preston was born on February 17, 1948. He was the youngest child to Melvin and Annie Preston. Dave was born and raised in Birtle, MB.
After his schooling, David joined the Royal Bank and worked in several communities throughout Manitoba and Ontario. He enjoyed his staff and all of the clients he had the privilege of working with throughout his career. He retired from the bank in 2000. David spent 29 years working in the Virden branch, choosing not to advance in the bank so that his children could grow up in one community and have one place to forever call “home”.
Dave met his wife Fran in Roblin, MB in 1970 when both were beginning their careers. Fran and Dave were married on July 3, 1971. Together they raised two daughters, Kim (Dean) Young and Angie (Troy) Lewis. Dave loved his girls and was even more proud of his five grandchildren, Madison, McKenna, Dawson, Burke and Kendry.
David had a love of all things sports. He loved hockey and attended many hockey games of his grandsons and enjoyed attending the Virden Oil Cap Games, but golf was his passion! Dave made many friends over years on the course and was still golfing this fall. He loved that some of his grandkids enjoyed the game almost as much as he did.
David was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s 2018 and this horrible disease advanced very quickly in the last few months. We are relieved that his battle with this disease is over and that Dad is finely at peace.
David was predeceased by his parents, Melvin and Annie Preston; mother-in-law, Myrtle Morgan; father-in-law, John Morgan; brothers-in-law, Murdie Morgan and Jim Howatt as well as great nephew, Bradley Ashcroft.
He will be lovingly missed by his wife, Fran, daughters, Kim (Dean) Young and Angie (Troy) Lewis and his five grandchildren, Madison, McKenna, Dawson, Burke, and Kendry. Others left to mourn include his brother, Ernie (Betty) Preston; sister, Ethel (Fred) Farquhar; brother-in-law, Bill (Diane) Morgan and sisters-in-law, Marg Howatt and Debbie Morgan. Dave had many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and one great great nephew that held special places in his heart. Dave had many extended family and friends that will miss him at the rink, on the course or around town.
A private luncheon was held on Friday, November 26, 2021.
