Welcome to the memorial page for

Doreen Alice (Marshall) Winteringham

July 27, 1925 ~ November 16, 2020 (age 95) 95 Years Old

Mrs. Doreen Winteringham of Oxbow passed away at the Galloway Health Centre on Monday, November 16, 2020 at the age of 95.

Doreen was born on the family farm at Wapella, SK. on July 27, 1925 to Ernest and Beatrice Marshall, the youngest of three children. She grew up attending country elementary school and then had to live in Wapella in the winter months to obtain her grade 12. Doreen was a good student and wanted to get her education. Getting to school from the farm in the winter time was not always possible due to snow and country roads. After graduating, Doreen worked in the Royal Bank in Wapella, Moosomin and then transferred to Oxbow where she met Ray Winteringham. Ray and Doreen were married on January 10, 1950 at her parent’s home in Wapella. They started their married life living in Oxbow in rooms above the drugstore for the winter and then moved to the Winteringham farm where they raised their two daughters, Sharon and Laurie. In 1978 they built a new home in Oxbow.

Doreen worked hard growing a garden, canning, baking, sewing and making a home for her family through many years when crops and times were difficult. Hail and drought were always serious to farm families. When asked, many of her grandchildren’s memories of Grandma were of her cookies and pie. She was very organized and detailed in her work. She was always a constant presence in the family’s life. Many trips were made over the years to visit and care for her parents at Wapella. Doreen was a member of St. Paul’s United Church and the U.C.W. When their family was grown, Doreen and Ray enjoyed travelling south with their 5th wheel and taking bus trips in Canada and the United States.

Ray and Doreen were married close to 64 years and were always together. Ray’s passing in 2013 was a big loss for Doreen. She spent the last few years of her life at the Galloway Health Centre in Oxbow and her family is grateful for the wonderful care she received from the Doctors and staff.

Doreen was predeceased by her devoted husband, Ray of 64 years in 2013; parents, Ernest and Emma May Beatrice Marshall; brother, William (Effie) Marshall; sister, Eileen (Pete) Harder.

She will be lovingly remembered by two daughters, Sharon (Alan) Morris of Oxbow and Laurie Friesen (Roy Pugh) of Regina; seven grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren: Jason (Natasha) Morris (children, Kylen, Brendan and Erica), Krista (Heath) Bauer (children, Ashlyn, Maleah and Kinley), Cara Hillier (children, Jace and Jensen), Jared (Christa) Morris (children, Alexa, Haley and Kyla), Justin (Sarah) Morris (children, Ellie and Seth); Bryce Friesen and Janelle (Craig) McKechnie (children, Harper and Lucy).

A private family graveside service was held at the Oxbow Cemetery.

Donations in memory of Doreen can be directed to the Oxbow Health Care Auxiliary, Box 268, Oxbow, SK. S0C 2B0 or St. Paul’s United Church, Box 719, Oxbow, SK. S0C 2B0.
