Obituary

Doug Schottenbauer, our father, grandfather and amazing friend to many passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 1, 2023 with family at his side.

Douglas Brian Schottenbauer was born June 26,1947 at Lyleton, MB. He was the second child born to Viola and Andrew Schottenbauer. Doug became little brother to Ernie and a big brother to Sharon, Sandra, and Shirley.

Doug attended school in Lyleton. After he was finished with school, he worked for farmers in the area then black gold called his name and he moved to Estevan to start work on the oil rigs. Soon after a mutual dear friend of theirs, Isabelle, introduced Doug to Helen. They started to court in the spring of 1965 and were married in 1968. August 27,1970 they were blessed with their first child, a beautiful baby girl they named Kimberly. Then on November 25,1974 their handsome son Kory was born. Even though the marriage between Doug and Helen wasn’t forever, their bond and friendship lasted until the day Doug passed.

Doug and Helen’s lives took them from Manitoba, to Saskatchewan, British Columbia and then finally Brooks, AB. Doug worked alongside his brother Ernie in the oil industry. In 1981, Doug started Doug’s Vacuum Truck Service. His business became a successful oil and gas business that he owned until the day he passed. We know Doug will always be thought of when someone sees the big blue vac truck rolling onto location or trucking up and down the number 1 highway. Doug was an amazing mechanic and could fix almost everything. This talent along with his magnetic personality made Doug a lot of life long friends. He loved to sit and tell stories (mostly true), tell his jokes and have a cold one with his friends.

There is not enough ink to mention all the special friends in Doug’s life (you know who you are) but a few are the Patterson boys and their families, June Pisiak and of course his faithful companion Jake.

Doug was predeceased by his parents, Andrew and Viola; brother, Ernie.

He is survived by his daughter, Kim (Shane); son, Kory (Deb); their mom, Helen; his grandchildren: Carly, Carson, Ben, and Jack; sisters, Sharon (John), Sandra (Everette), and Shirley (Dale); many special nieces, nephews and of course all his friends who became his family.

A celebration of life was held at the Tilley Community Hall, Tilley, AB. on Friday, August 11, 2023 at 4:00 pm. Doug will then make his last trip to his home town of Lyleton and be laid to rest with his parents.

A public graveside service was held at the Lyleton Cemetery on Saturday, August 19, 2023.

There is a song that we believe was written for Doug, “Give Heaven Some Hell“ and the line “you had a wild side but you had amazing grace“ fits Doug perfectly.

Rest easy Doug, until we meet again Slim.
