"Doug" Mervin Douglas Snyder

September 27, 1937 ~ March 22, 2020 (age 82) 82 Years Old

Doug passed away peacefully with family by his side at the Melita Health Centre on Sunday, March 22, 2020 at the age of 82.

He was born September 27, 1937 in Melita. Doug was the second eldest child born to Mervin and Renee Snyder. Doug received his education at the Melita School. Doug furthered his education in diesel mechanics in Edmonton.

Doug was married to Marilyn Robson on October 27, 1962. They purchased the 3-4-27 farm in 1964, 2 miles west of Melita and Doug resided there up until his passing. They raised five children on the farm. Doug and Marilyn purchased the family heritage farm W 28-2-27 (South farm) in December of 1974, Doug’s “Heaven on Earth.”

Doug was predeceased his loving wife and partner, Marilyn in 2005.  

For Doug to pursue his love for farming, he had taken on various jobs. He was a mechanic, farmhand and worked as a laborer in the Nickel Mines in Thompson for I.N.C.O.  He drove a tractor trailer for Silverline. In 1973 Doug owned the first-round hay baler in the area and purchased the Vermeer dealership. He loved to visit and have coffee with his customers.

Doug played with the Browns Baseball Club from 1959-1964. Doug and his team were inducted into the Manitoba Softball Hall of Fame and Museum on May 5, 2012. Doug’s 80th birthday was celebrated with a family baseball game.

Doug was a 4-H Beef leader with the local 4-H beef club. Doug had a soft spot for all animals especially his faithful dog, Odie. He truly enjoyed his round table discussion with family and friends over the years. Doug enjoyed his Sunday drives around the area extending to Coulter Park and the South farm to check out the crops and ended it with a Maple Walnut Sundae before heading home.

Doug was predeceased by parents, Mervin and Renee Snyder; brother, Russell; great-grandson, Matthew Forster; sister-in-law, Val Rink; two brothers-in-law, John Louttit and Art Kurtz.

He is survived by his five children: Terrie Lynn Forster of Melita and her two sons, Eric (Kandace) Forster (their two sons, Korbin and Kenton), and Danial (Natasha) Forster (Donavin, Marcus, Emmett), Debra (Martin) Prive of Selkirk (Tonisha, Jaden and Madilyn), Susan (Grant) Nicol of Brandon (Halen and Holly), Georgina (Trevor) Fletcher of Melita (Tyson (Janessa Kenler), Nick (Kelsey Schuddemat) and Britney), Russell (Jennifer) Snyder of Melita (Carter, Colton and Ava); two sisters, Donna Louttit and Marilyn Kurtz; sister-in-law, Sharon (Bob) Anderson; two brothers-in-law, Gordon (Mary) Robson, and John Rink.

A private family service took place on Friday, March 27, 2020 with burial at the Melita Cemetery.
