I am very sorry to hear of Edgar's death. He was 6 days younger than my brother, Ken, and they were best friends before and during high school. Ken passed away last week, two days after I learned of Robin Wilcott's passing. These three young men were friends, went to school together, hung out, and died within 5 weeks of each other. Much too young, all of them.

My memories of Edgar are very pleasant. He inspired me to begin to entertain the idea that I could play the guitar. He was the first person I ever knew personally who could pound out a tune. I remember sitting in Neff's Cafe (the new one on the west side of the street) and Edgar telling me about how he'd been playing what he called "the big Fenders" with some of his friends from ...maybe it was Carnduff? I was so impressed. I had the pleasure of running into him in at 3 Star Trucking in 2003 when rode my motorcycle from Victoria to Alida, just to see the town again. A group of guys, including Robin, materialized on a Friday afternoon, and we sat around the shop sipping beers and chatting about the old days for a couple of hours. Unforgettable.

Edgar was a good man. I know because my mom, Sadie really liked him, and she was never wrong.

Rest in peace, Edgar, Robin, and Ken.

Dear Todd, Lloyd, Steven and families,
I am sorry it has taken so long for me to do this but it took me a while to decide what I wanted to say.
Along with my deepest condolences, I really wanted you to know what I thought of your Dad. When I thought of Edgar, I saw a warm, kind and intelligent soul with an incredible memory and the greatest sense of humour. But I mostly saw a great friend who loved his wife, kids and grandchildren more than his own life. Of that I have no doubt..
I wanted to share a little story with you. Years ago when I was working at the grocery store in Alida, your Dad was there one day while I was getting ready to go outside for one reason or another. I was rummaging like a crazy person under the counter and he asked if I had lost something. “I can’t find my sunglasses anywhere “ I said in frustration. He looked at the top of my head and his face lit up, much like the picture on here, and I turned ten shades of red as I took my sunglasses off of my head. He never said a word but if I was ever visiting your Mom and I was silly enough to say I couldn’t find something, he would look at me and grin. He never forgot anything, did he?
But I did get him back - in a way. When we were living at the convent, he would drive by every morning on his way to work. One day when I ran into him, he informed me that he had waved at me three mornings in a row before he realized he was waving at a scarecrow on the edge of the garden. I remember asking him why he would ever admit that!
“Do you know where your sunglasses are Leah?”
“Waved at any scarecrows lately Edgar?”
Your Dad was a special person in so many lives. It was an honour to know him and call him my friend.
God bless you all
Leah

It was shock when Grqndma called to say Uncle Edgar had passed. From times at the farm and many holidays together, I'll never forget the wisdom given and the personality that fill the room. His smile & laugh was contagious.. I cherish our last dinner together, now more than ever. Love ya. Godspeed.

Shirley & family
My most deepest sympathy.
My thoughts are with you all.....I truly am saddened of learning this.
I find myself reflecting back to my days as a kid.... Helping him and the boys do chores in the old barn at 0 dark buffalo in the winter. Edgar coaching us hockey and driving us all over to games in the shagg'n wagon and him tricking me into eating plug tobacco by suggesting it was chocolate. (much funnier now than then) LOL
He truly was a mentor to many and always seemed to make time to chat about near any topic. Edgar could fix something with near nothing.
I will always remember the positive impact he made in my life as a young man, he was a great man and will be missed.

Shirley. Todd, Lloyd, Steven and Families,
Sorry to hear of this. I would truly love to come and visit but understand in these times. I learnt a lot from Edgar over the last 34 years. Some stories were of his quick responses to a silly question and his abundance of knowledge of the business we are in and the history in his head. When something would go sideways and then it got fixed up he would say "The Oil Gods Have Stepped in to Help Again"

Dear Shirley, Todd, Lloyd, Steven and Families,
We are so sorry to hear of Edgar’s passing. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your families during these difficult times.
We remember Edgar for his great wit, kind heart, and love for learning. We also remember that Dad (Bennie) thought of Edgar as a son and was proud of his every accomplishment and their close relationship which grew while working together on the telephone lines. They would revert to speaking Danish to the great delight of one another. There was a twinkle in Dad’s eye at the mere mention of Edgar’s name.
Once again, we send our love and sympathy to Edgar’s entire family.
