Mr. Everett Greenley of Melita, formerly of the Coulter district, passed away peacefully at the Melita Personal Care Home on Sunday, December 5, 2021 at the age of 94.
Everett Laverne Greenley was born July 28, 1927 on the home farm at SW 21-1-27 W1. He was the youngest child of nine born to James and Jessie Greenley.
Everett attended school at Coultervale and like many others during those times left school to work on the family farm.
On August 5, 1960 he married Lydia Grace Stamper at the Killarney Anglican Church. Together they raised five busy boys, David, Darryl, Jerry, Kenneth, and Edward. These boys in turn gave them twelve grandchildren and five great grandchildren which they enjoyed so much.
Farming was his life. He spent many days out in the fields, and when he got older enjoyed helping Ed on the farm. You could often find him out for a drive checking crops, taking a drive around town, or just looking at something new he had heard about. He also loved listening to old time music.
Everett and Grace resided on the family farm until moving into town in December of 2009. When living in town, he would sit in a chair by the window and watch the cars drive by for hours and pointed out the little details of something he noticed. In his later years dementia took a toll on him. He became too much for mom to handle at home so he was placed in the Deloraine PCH in spring of 2016. In the fall of 2017, a spot became available and he moved back to the Melita PCH. He sure enjoyed the activities and loved joking around with the nurses and staff.
He loved to joke around with everyone, always cracking a "smart ass" remark to try to get people to laugh. You just never knew what he was up to with that silly smirk on his face. We sure are going to miss that.
He will be forever remembered and dearly missed by son, David (Jeanette) and children David, Evan, Katrina, and Thomas; son, Darryl, daughter in law, Cindy and children Alex, John, Ashley, Margaret, Katie and Jeffrey; son, Kenneth (Marcie) and children Kierra, Dilan and Lucas; son, Edward (Michele) and children Cassandra and Victoria; great grandchildren, Tanner, Chase, Isabella, Quinn, and Neveah.
Everett was predeceased by his wife, Lydia Grace; son, Jerry; parents, James and Jessie Greenley; siblings, Cecil, Merton, Donald, Hector, Mabel, Lottie, Nora and Hazel.
A private family graveside service was held at the Coultervale Cemetery.
