Mrs. Frieda Sombrutzki of Oxbow, SK. passed away at the Galloway Health Centre, Oxbow on Friday, July 18, 2025 at the age of 96 years.
She is survived by her daughter, Brenda (Armand) Raiwet; daughter-in-law, Leslie Ann Sombrutzki; five grandchildren: Angel (Ryan) Blair, Jordan (Scott Peters) Sombrutzki, Jake Sombrutzki, Jessica (Jeff) Gysler, Paul (Cindy) Raiwet; nine great-grandchildren: Lyla & Freja Gysler, Easton & Carson Blair, Katelyn, Luke, & Logan Raiwet, and Callum & Magnus Peters; and brother-in-law, Rudy Ast; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, friends, and her Moir Drive Family.
Frieda was predeceased by her parents, Mr. & Mrs. Herman and Lydia (Drude) Biberdorf; two infant brothers, Heinrich and Arnold Biberdorf and an infant sister, Ella Biberdorf; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Albert (Maria) Biberdorf, Emil (Clara) Biberdorf and Erhart (Ruth) Biberdorf; sister, Lillian Ast; son, Douglas Sombrutzki and her sweet loving husband of 57 years, Gerhart Sombrutzki.
Frieda grew up in the Hirsch/Frobisher area and got her teaching certificate in Moose Jaw. She was employed by the Oxbow School Unit and taught for 5 years in the Poplar, Green Hill and Coldridge Schools. Her love of teaching didn’t end when her career ended, she continued to teach her kids, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren the importance of family, faith, and a good game of scrabble.
A public funeral service for family and friends took place at St. Peter Lutheran Church, Oxbow, SK. on Tuesday, July 22, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Adrian Kramer officiating. Interment followed at the Oxbow Cemetery.
