Gloria Lynn (Pitt) Holmes

Gloria Lynn Holmes, formerly of Pierson, MB passed away suddenly on Wednesday, June 26, 2024 at her home in Elliot Lake, Ontario at the age of 79 years.

Gloria was born on April 18, 1945 in Melita, MB to Hardy and Doris Pitt. She attended grade school in Pierson, MB and pursued a career in Edmonton, AB to become an LPN. On August 16, 1963 she married Royden Leslie Holmes. Together they worked and raised their two children in many different communities over the years, making countless friendships along the way. They spent time in all four western provinces, with most of their time living in Saskatchewan and Manitoba.

Gloria was known for her cooking and cleaning. She loved family and friends but most of all loved being Grandma Glo and Nana to all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. One of her favorite places to visit was Cuba and she was lucky enough to have visited many times. Her most recent visit was in January of 2024 with 17 family members joining her.

Gloria was proud to be a nurse and she made many friendships throughout her career. It did not end when she retired, she was always giving advice and fixing everyone up with any ailments that they had. Once a nurse, always a nurse.

After the loss of her dear husband Roy in 2003, Gloria moved from Minnedosa to Regina. In 2005, she reconnected with her old friend Dick and relocated to Elliot Lake, Ontario where she remained until the time of her passing.

Glo was a dear friend and loved by many. She will be dearly missed and remembered for her heart of gold and never giving up on anybody.

She was predeceased by her parents Hardy & Doris Pitt; husband Royden Holmes; sister Gail Dalziel and many other in-laws, cousins, aunts, and uncles.

Gloria is survived by her daughter Sandra (Denis) Genest, grandchildren Kara, Kim, Blaire, Brooke, Jennifer, Danielle & great grandchildren Hayden and Dominic; son Craig (Angie) Holmes, grandchildren Kendell, Tanner, Calem, Brayden, Shaelynn, Kaleigh & great granddaughter Gabriella; sister Elizabeth “Betty” Clarke (Michael); sister-in-law Audrey Clark; brothers-in-law Gordon (Linda) Holmes and Bruce Dalziel; partner Richard Hambly and his children Karen (Charles), Laura (James), Matt (Holly), Jody (Rob) and grandchildren Adam, Ryan, Kole, Rebecca, Sean, Clare, Kayden, Tom, Julia, Sam, Ben and Jack along with numerous nieces nephews, and cousins.

A funeral service for Gloria was held at the Lyleton United Church, Lyleton, MB. on Saturday, July 13, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Heather Sandilands officiating. Interment followed at the Lyleton Cemetery.
