Howard Kenneth Young

It is with very sad hearts we announce the passing of a very special person in our lives, Howard Kenneth Young, at the age of 91. Howard passed away at the Galloway Health Centre, Oxbow on Thursday, August 1, 2019.

Howard is survived by his wife, Dot of 68 years; son, Ken (Denise) Young and their three children, Chantel (Scott) Cameron (sons, Alexander and Lennox), Natasha (Corey) Lees (children, Emma, Kyla, and Becca), and Derek Young; daughter, Donna Young; son, Wayne Young and his son, Lennon; daughter, Sharon (Paul) Bouchard and their children, Bradyn and Shalyn; son, Blair Young; brothers, Jack (Fae) Young and Don (Marjorie) Young; sister, Mildred (Dale) Morrison; sister-in-law, Margaret Young; brother-in-law, Allen (Joyce) Wilson; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He was predeceased by his parents, Art and Zella (Riddell) Young; brothers, Clayton, William, Edgar (Lydia), and Robert; sister, Kathleen (Harvey) Shier.

Howard was born at Alameda in nurse Bolton's Nursing Home on November 8, 1927, the fifth child of Arthur and Zella Young. He received his grade school education in Alameda, then started farming with his dad. Howard joined the Alameda Masonic Lodge in 1949, and in 1981 joined the Wa Wa Shrine Temple. He was an active member of the Alameda United Church. He worked in the oilfield as a battery operator for 37 years.

He was a loving husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather - enjoying his family along with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. While working in the oilfield he always had time for coffee playing "Birds in the Bush" with farm friends and oilfield workers. Over the years Howard had many aliases including: Howie Hard Hat, The Happy Hooker, Metric, and the Alameda Admiral.

The funeral service was held at the Alameda United Church, Alameda, SK. on Monday, August 5, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Jackie van't Voort officiating. A private family interment took place at the Alameda Cemetery.
