Hugh Ronald Wilmot

Mr. Hughie "Hugh" Ronald Wilmot of Carnduff passed away peacefully at the Sunset Haven Nursing Home on Saturday, May 20, 2023 at the age of 99.

Hugh was born and raised in Carnduff. As a young man Hugh joined the RCMP and was a constable for five years. Early in his career he was stationed in the Western Arctic. This became one of the most memorable and loved experiences of his life. There were many stories shared about driving dog teams, hunting and friendships with the First Nations population. Hugh was eventually stationed in Winnipeg where he met his wife Anne at an RCMP New Year’s party. Hugh and Anne married in Winnipeg on June 28, 1952 and returned to Carnduff to farm. To this union four children were born: Flynn John (March 1953), Christine Joyce (October 1954), Bruce Timothy (September 1956) and Lowell Hugh (April 1960). Hugh proudly served as a councillor in the RM of Mount Pleasant No. 2 for ten years. He received a Public Service Award following his term.

Hugh is survived by his daughter, Christine (Thomas) Hodgins and their children, Adam Hodgins and Julie Hodgins (Jer Zillman) (daughter, Olive Zillman); son, Bruce Wilmot and his daughters, Melissa Williams (Erique) (daughters, Raena and Esmae) and Sandra Wilmot; sister-in-law, Jean Wilmot.

He was predeceased by his wife, Anne (d. 2010); sons, Flynn and Lowell; parents, Jack and Myrtle (Watling) Wilmot; brothers, Gordon, Glen (Margaret), Doug (Doreen), Donald (Dorothy); sisters, Nell (Bill) Barber and Nilda (John) Cole.

A public graveside service was held at the Carnduff Cemetery, Carnduff, SK. on Saturday, May 27, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Kathy Kyle officiating.
