James "Jim" Batt

June 5, 1924 ~ May 12, 2020 (age 95) 95 Years Old

Mr. Jim Batt of Oxbow, passed away at the Galloway Health Centre, Oxbow, SK. on Tuesday, May 12, 2020 at the age of 95.

Jim was the fourth child born to Bert and Jane Batt on June 5, 1924. Jim attended Purplehill School and eventually quit school to go farming with his father. Farming was his whole life and he always enjoyed working with the cattle. On October 18, 1952 Jim married Della Poole of Carlyle and they started their life together on the farm that Dwayne and Sandy continue to farm today. Here they raised five children, three girls and twin boys. Jim was a devoted family man and his family always came first. Christmas was always a cherished time for the family. Jim and Della moved to Alameda in 1986 but Jim continued to farm with Dwayne for awhile. The park in Alameda always held a special place in Jim’s heart. Alongside a group of residents, Jim and Della developed the park into a place for all to enjoy. The couple moved to Oxbow in 2013 to the senior housing which he enjoyed. Due to failing health, he moved to the Oxbow Galloway Health Centre on April 14, 2020 where he appreciated all that was done for him.

Jim was predeceased by his daughter, Connie; grandson, Kyle; sons-in-law, Kevin Schiestel and Ken Westwater; father, Bert; mother, Jane; sister, Doris (Cliff); brothers, John (Ellen) and Bill (Jean); brother-in-law, George Gurney.

Jim is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife of 67 years, Della; daughters, Valorie, and Sharon (Poncho); sons, Dwayne (Sandra) and Wayne (Rose); grandsons, Braden (Teagan), Nolan, Shawn (Amanda), Curtis (Carrie), and Brian; granddaughters, Erika (Cory), and Christine; great-grandchildren, Braylon, Holden, Cruz, Kennedy and a new addition come July; sister, Jean Gurney as well as many nieces and nephews and other family on both sides.
