Mrs. Jean Fitzpatrick passed away peacefully at the Sunset Haven, Carnduff, SK. on Wednesday, April 7, 2021 at the age of 101.

Grandma Jean, as she was known to many, was born south of Glen Ewen in the Souris Flat Valley on Nov. 28, 1919 accompanied by twin brother Jim. As a member of a large family she learned how to work at an early age, especially as her mother passed away when she was 8, a loss she felt her whole life. She began to attend the Gospel Hall meetings as a young girl, and was saved at the age of 16. She had a strong faith which never wavered for the next 85 years. She married Ross Fitzpatrick in 1940, taking on the care of his 2 children, 5 boys followed, as well as 2 grandchildren and 3 foster children; she was firm in her determination to be the mother for them that she missed so much. She continued this passion by caring for her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren whenever possible. Her life as a farm wife was pretty labour intensive and she took it all on and more – raising chickens, taking in boarders, and many other tasks to make ends meet. Family was important, and she excelled at maintaining the connections with the large Fitzpatrick and MacNaught families with visits, phone calls and letters. She loved connecting with people and would amaze us all with her knowledge of the whereabouts of everyone. Her memory was legendary, she could remember birthdays of the whole community, often calling with birthday greetings. If you happened to visit near a mealtime, she could produce a full course meal out of thin air before you could take your coat off. She liked to be on the go and was always impeccably dressed. We remember her passion for flowers, the Royal family, letter writing, and Red Rose tea. She approached life with determination, resilience and a keen sense of humour. She was a strong vibrant lady who considered the needs of others before her own. Above all else her faith and her family were the mainstays of her long life. We`d like to thank the staff at the Sunset Haven for their heart felt care and compassion.

Jean is survived by her children: Ruth Brook, Barry (Alice), Reg (Fran), Kelly (Rita), Marsha (Tim) Selinger, Allan, Ruth (Murray) Macfarlane, Sam (Norma) Bachorick, Bev Bachorick; daughter-in-law, Diane Wilcott; sister-in-law, Joyce MacNaught; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nephews, nieces and their families.

She was predeceased by her husband, Ross; sons, Neil, Marshall and Lorne; grandchildren, Brent, Ashley and Duane; four brothers (including her twin brother, Jim MacNaught) and eight sisters; parents, Mr. and Mrs. Duncan and Laura (Huntington) MacNaught.

The funeral service was held at the Gospel Hall (south of Glen Ewen, SK.) on Monday, April 12, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. with Mr. Randy Logue officiating. A private family interment followed at the Meridian Cemetery.
