Joan Wilson Obituary

Joan was born February 15, 1933 in Cullercoats, Northumberland, England.  After graduating high school, she earned a State Scholarship to the University of Manchester where she received a BA Honours in French and was also fluent in German, Latin and Spanish.  She went on to receive her diploma in Education from the University of Reading.  Joan taught in England and Spain before immigrating to Canada where she began teaching in Carievale High School in 1961.

In 1962 Joan married Sterling Wilson and they had two children David and Catherine.  Joan was a devoted mother and a pillar in the community where she was active in many groups including the Anglican and United Churches, Fairview Rebekah Lodge, Bethel Friendship Club, the Carnduff & District Music Festival, and the NDP.  She was also an avid reader and especially loved reading history.

In 1994 she suddenly lost her husband Sterling and moved from the farm to Carnduff.  In 2006 her son David passed away which left a huge hole in her heart, and she decided to move to Regina in 2008 to be closer to her daughter and grandchildren.  She continued to be active in the community where she was a part of the Lutheran Church, volunteered at the Regina General Hospital Book Store, and took a Spanish language course.

She was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and eventually moved to Brightwater Senior Living in 2020 where she passed away peacefully with her family by her side.

Joan was predeceased by her husband, Sterling; son, David; brother-in-law, Gordon; parents, Tom and Sarah Dalziel.

Joan was a kind and gentle soul with a heart of gold.  She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter, Cathy MacAdam, grand-children, Miranda and Rylan; cousins, and friends.

A funeral service for Joan was held on Thursday, November 14, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. from Carievale United Church, Carievale, SK. The interment followed at Workman Cemetery.

Donations in her memory can be made to Carievale United Church, Box 29, Carievale, SK.  S0C 0P0.
