Kay Imogene (Philip) Herbert

Mrs. Kay Herbert, formerly of Tilston, passed away peacefully at the Minnedosa Personal Care Home, Minnedosa, MB. on Thursday, October 13, 2022 at the age of 95.

Kay Imogene Philip was born on June 16th, 1927 to Ida Hall and Percy Philip at the Hall homestead in the Eunola district. Kay was home schooled by her Aunt Grace Hall (Auntie), the matriarch of the family. Kay went to Pierson for Grade 11 living with Grandma Philip and to Melita for Grade 12 where she lived with sister/friend, Berne Minshull. As a child her interests were riding her horse, piano lessons, reading the dictionary, knitting, sewing and 4-H calves. Thomas Herbert arrived from Ontario in 1945 on a train to help with harvest in Manitoba. Percy Philip hired him and Kay had her first and only romance, her one and only Tom. They got to know each other gathering the chickens into the coop in the dark of night. They married on June 10th, 1948 at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Brandon and took the train to Wasagaming for their honeymoon.

Kay was so content to live on 19-4-29 growing her family and many friends.

Kay Imogene was predeceased by husband, Tom; daughter, Mary Ida; son-in-law, Glen Nicoll; their stillborn son, James; parents, Ida and Percy Philip; brother, Keith, Phyllis and Brent Philip. 

She is survived by six children: Karen Herbert (Ian Stichbury), Michael and Briar; Peter Herbert (Darcie), Mandi Riffel (Dan), Dean Herbert (Kellie), Kari Ida Dobson (Andrew); Susan Nicoll, Matthew Ward and Alexa Fleury; Michael Herbert (Kay), Ryan (Laurie), Erin, Krista McKenzie (Joe); son-in-law, Mark Donohoe, Haydn Donohoe (Laci), Holly Flaman (Mike), Anna Donohoe; Stacie Cardy (Andy), Christopher, Drew, Cassandra & Brent; Joy Lorette (Darren), Alyssa Tymko (Kurt), Devon (Drew); great-grandchildren, Queran & Kaiden Stichbury, Owen & Mikayla Riffel, Wynn, Arlo & Sadie Herbert, Wyatt & Kaylee Dobson, Prairie Ward, Ari, Abi, Avery & Sia Fleury, Zen & Xander Herbert, Ellen Herbert, Hazel & Hank Donohoe, Hunter & Greyson Lorette. She is also survived by Sandra P. Sterling, Grant Philip, Cindy Philip, Valerie Philip, Jacquie Philip Loucks, Ann Day and their families.

The Funeral Mass was held at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, Melita, MB. on Saturday, October 22, 2022 at 11:30 a.m. with Rev. Father Darius Biliran as Celebrant. The interment followed at the Tilston Catholic Cemetery.
