Mr. Lloyd Hanson of Carievale, passed away peacefully at the age of 75 on Sunday, August 10, 2025 after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Lloyd is survived by his two children, Darryl (Lindsey) Hanson and Bobby-Jo (Steve) Orosz; and his six grandchildren, Kelsie and Carter (Darryl), Mathew (Tayah), Ethan, Riley, and Savannah (Bobby-Jo); great-grandchildren, Ashlynn and Paislee (Mathew) and his three siblings, Germain Mutter, Alan (Shirley) Hanson, and Arnold Hanson (Cindy Douglas Schmutz).
Lloyd was preceded in death by his wife, Bertha; parents, Lucy and Bernt; brother, Bryant and grandson, Dylan.
Lloyd was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, who offered strength, support and wisdom, not only to his family but to the community of Carievale. Lloyd had a drive and passion for helping anyone in his community and surrounding communities. If there was a lawn to be mowed, grain to clean, a combine to drive, or a fire to be put out he would be the first to be there. He was a man of very little words, but he didn’t have to say a lot for anyone to know that they mattered to Lloyd and that he was someone in the community you could always count on if you needed him. He loved and respected everyone he knew in his life, and there was never a day that went by that he would rather be working, whether that was for the town of Carievale as the town foreman for many years, buying and cleaning grain for the elevators, which was his career from a young man at the age of 17 until he retired from the Wheat Pool as manager but continued working at the Carievale elevator. If you couldn’t find him at the elevator or doing something around the town he was likely combining for a friend. Lloyd's biggest passion was being a part of the Carievale Fire Department as chief for many years. He was so proud to be a part of such an amazing community of volunteers who all became very close friends to him and were always on his mind, you were such a huge part of his life. He enjoyed being with and had the most respect for each one of the volunteers of the fire department. We know that was one of his hardest moments was when he could no longer fight a fire and help his community when they needed him.
Lloyd had a heart of gold, and a loyal dedicated work ethic. We are grateful to be left with so many beautiful memories like teaching the grandkids how to play crib, taking them for a tour of the fire hall and the fire truck, watching his grandson play hockey and lacrosse and his granddaughter competing in figure skating. We were also so blessed during these last 4 years to spend the best quality time with Dad/Grandpa, taking him camping and boating, watching his daily game shows and going for daily walks or just sitting around enjoying each other and not saying a word and if you know Lloyd you know he always had a lot to say. Lloyd was so proud of Darryl, Bobby-Jo and his 6 grandkids. He enjoyed hearing the latest updates on their lives whether it was from one starting university, to graduating university, to beginning a career as a mechanic or following grandpa's path and risking your own life fighting fires. He instilled the idea of hard work, respect, and to say nothing if it was unnecessary, which was more than often for him.
Dad/Grandpa, we love you always and will miss you every day, but we find peace and comfort knowing that you no longer must put on a brave face and endure such suffering and can now be with mom, (Bertha) in peace. Until we meet again, rest easy pops.
A celebration of Lloyd's life was held at the Carievale United Church, Carievale, SK. on Friday, August 22, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. with Mrs. Bev Ireland officiating. Interment followed at the Carievale Cemetery.
