The family of Lornetta Jean Rogers are deeply saddened by her passing on Thursday, August 18,2022 at the age of 87 years young.
Lornetta was predeceased by her husband Keith and her brother Jim Hill. She is survived by her very special friend, Bob Scott, her children, Lori (Bruce McColl) and Kevin (Cathie); grandchildren, Colin McColl (Alli), Jenna McColl-Easby (Steve), Kieran Rogers (Kelsey) and Aidan Rogers (Heather Sader) and four great grandchildren, Olivia, Heidi, Elliot and Ben who were her pride and joy. Lornetta also leaves her surviving siblings, Betty Forbes, Jack Hill (Tina), Murray Hill (Pat) and Sharon Berntson (Glenn) and her sister-in-law, Judy Hill.
Lornetta was born December 2, 1934 to Roy and Verna Hill. She grew up and finished school in Glen Ewen and from there moved to Winnipeg, to begin nursing training with the Grey Nuns at St. Boniface Hospital. She was a proud member of the graduating class of 1955, and at that point she returned to Oxbow to work at the “old hospital” on Main Street, which was the start of a long nursing career. In 1957 she married Keith Rogers. Lori and Kevin arrived over the next five years and Lornetta then returned to nursing at the Oxbow Union Hospital. After Keith’s passing in 1988 she carried on and a number of years later she found another farmer to help fill her life. Lornetta and Bob Scott had been high school sweethearts and after each losing their spouse they rekindled their relationship and spent the next 30 plus years together in Oxbow and winter locations.
She made a point of not retiring until after she had worked in the Galloway Health Centre. It was fitting that her last days were spent in that hospital, where she received an amazing level of care. Her family would like to extend their deepest thanks to Dr. Botha, the nurses, EMT’s and staff at the Centre for the respect and compassionate way they looked after Lornetta in her last month.
Lornetta will be dearly missed by family, friends and countless others whose lives she touched. In recognition of her commitment to the health care of the region, donations can be made in her memory to the Oxbow Health Care Auxiliary, PO Box 268, Oxbow, SK S0C 2B0, E-mail: oxbowauxilliary@xplornet.ca
A celebration of Lornetta's life was held at the St. Paul's United Church, Oxbow on Tuesday, August 23, 2022 at 2:00pm with Rev. Jackie van't Voort officiating. Interment followed at the Oxbow Cemetery.
