Lyn (Neumann) Shannon Obituary

Evelyn Lorraine (Neumann) Shannon

Dec. 28, 1948 - June 9, 2026

Evelyn (Lyn) passed away suddenly on Tuesday, June 9th at the Brandon Regional Health Centre (ICU). Lyn was born in Deloraine and raised in nearby Waskada, Manitoba.

Lyn is survived by her husband, Barry Shannon; daughter Tricia (Ryan), grandson Zachary (Jesse); son Tom (Lisa), grandchildren Landon Wilson (Amanda), Liam, Jagger, and Marlee; granddaughter Sarah; sisters Joan and Betty; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Lyn was predeceased by her parents, Ruth and Henry; sister Pat; brothers George, Charlie (survived by Bev), Bob (survived by Joan), and Jim (survived by Shirley); brothers-in-law Harry, Gil (survived by Betty), and Don (survived by Joan); and Barry’s parents, Lloyd and Peggy.

Lyn attended Verona School until grade 8 and then went to Waskada, where she graduated.

Lyn married Barry Shannon on November 9, 1968. They lived in Melita and then moved to Brandon, MB. Lyn first worked at the Clement medical building then at the Brandon Shoppers Mall as an administrative assistant, and finally for the Brandon Wheat Kings of the Western Hockey League, where she was the executive assistant for 31 years. Lyn did the accounting books and was involved with the hockey players, arranging billets, travel needs, and ensuring that they had all they needed away from home. She made many lifelong friends.

Lyn belonged to a ladies golf club, “The Bags”, who played Tuesday evenings at the Northern Pines in Brandon, then snacks and fun afterwards. Lyn also curled for many years with her brother Bob and others.  She also enjoyed camping while at ball tournaments where Barry played. She later took up fitness classes.

Lyn remembered “special days” with gifts, cards, poems and parties. After retiring she was cooking special meals and took a lot of joy in doing so.  A special treat was to attend the “Celebrations” dinner and show in Winnipeg.

Lyn followed the Facebook “Waskada Collegiate Reunion Group” to keep in touch with her school mates.

The celebration of Lyn's life will be held at The Backyard on Aberdeen, 1624 - 13th Street, Brandon, MB. on Friday, August 28, 2026 from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. Interment will take place at the Waskada Cemetery at a later date with family attending.

Lyn loved the quote that her mother instilled with family, “Stay friends and love one another.”

Miss Me - But Let Me Go

When I come to the end of the road

And the sun has set for me

I want no rites in a gloom filled room.

Why cry for a soul set free.

Miss me a little - but not too long

And not with your head bowed low.

Remember the love we once shared.

Miss me - but let me go.

For this is a journey we all must take

And each must go alone.

It’s all part of the Master’s plan

A step on the road to home.

When you are lonely and sick at heart,

Go to the friends we know

And bury your sorrows in doing good deeds,

Miss me - but let me go.
