Mable Elizabeth Stephenson (née Kennedy)
November 12, 1924 – January 10, 2026
It is with great love and sadness that the family of Mable Elizabeth Stephenson announce her peaceful passing on January 10, 2026, at the Gainsborough Health Centre, at the age of 101.
Mable was born on November 12, 1924, in Antler, Saskatchewan, to William Thomas and Emma (Leist) Kennedy. She married Arthur (Jack) Stephenson, on May 1, 1957, and they shared 33 years together. Mable made several lifelong friends in Antler, Bermuda, Regina, Brooks and Gainsborough, the communities she resided in and called home.
Mable will be lovingly remembered by her son Kevin and his wife Cathy; grandchildren Kayla (Jonathan) Gasirabo and Brad (Camryn) Stephenson; great-granddaughter Keza Gasirabo; and her beloved “grand puppies” Kovu and Winnie. She is also survived by her brothers Eddie (Elaine) Kennedy and Alfred Kennedy, sister-in-law Olive Kennedy, and many cherished nieces and nephews.
Mable was predeceased by her parents William Thomas and Emma; her husband Jack; her sisters Anne Flamme, Sadie Reynolds, Ruth Cuti; and her brothers Bill, Glenn, Ken, and Redge Kennedy.
Throughout her life, Mable was known for her kind heart, witty sense of humor and determination. She was a feisty and dedicated hockey mom who’s love for the game shifted over the years from the Weyburn Red Wings to the Calgary Flames. Mable was very independent and resilient, always ready with a good joke or to share a laugh. She loved her family, her dogs, finding a great bargain, and getting her weekly lottery tickets. Her adventurous spirit took her to work at the Banff Springs Hotel and the Princess Hotel in Bermuda; two experiences she remembered fondly all her life.
Mable and Jack met and married in Bermuda and when they returned to Regina, they opened the Bermuda Coffee Shop. In 1964, they sold the coffee shop and Mable’s next/last employer was the Regina Florist which was owned by her neighbors Alex and Ruby Aitken. She always said the best part of all those years, at the flower shop, was working alongside Pat Klein and Lindsay Blacker. Mable had a heart of gold always opening her door to anyone who needed a place to stay. She was truly an amazing cook and hostess; she always had a warm, delicious meal and pie ready to share with her guests.
Mable was always thankful for the care she received from the Gainsborough Health Centre and Brooks Orchard Manor.
A family graveside service will be held this spring at Riverside Memorial Park Cemetery in Regina.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Mable may be made to the Gainsborough United Church or the Gainsborough Health Centre.
