Margery Ann McMurdo (nee Tingey) of Brandon, formerly of Lyleton, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Saturday, October 22nd, 2022 at the Brandon Regional Health Centre at the age of 80.
Margery was born at the Tingey family farm on May 10, 1942. She was the fifth of six children born to Gordon and Freda (Downey) Tingey. Margery attended school in Lyleton and she loved all the sports. She enjoyed softball and skating the most.
Margery married the love of her life on December 24th in a Christmas Eve ceremony at the Lyleton United Church. Gary and Margery bought their first house in Lyleton where they resided until they moved to the farm in 1971.
Many Friday nights were spent at the dances in Lyleton and surrounding towns, as mom loved to dance and her rock and roll music.
They started their family in 1961 when Marcel was born in July. Dwayne followed in 1963 and Darin in 1966. Their family was completed in 1974 when their daughter Nichole arrived.
Gary and Margery made their living grain, cattle and pig farming while Gary drove the school bus. Margery always had a big garden to feed the family. Her days were busy running kids around, cooking, cleaning and helping dad on their farm.
Gary and Margery took many camping trips with the Erixon and Culbertson families, from Yellowstone to Metigoshe. Lots of fun was always had with all the kids.
Margery was an active member of the Lyleton UCW and in the church choir. Margery loved to sing in the choir. Margery also loved her handycrafts with the Lyleton ladies. Many good times were shared over all their crafts.
Gary and Margery sold out of their farm equipment in 1996 and their cattle in 2003. They resided on the family farm until 2015 when they moved to Brandon. They soon called Monterey Estates their new home and met many new friends as well as lots of old acquaintances.
Margery's health began to deteriorate but she would never complain or let that stop her. She loved to attend all the family gatherings and loved to host her family. She was always cooking and baking and you never left hungry.
Gary and Margery had seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren and she loved them with her whole heart. She ran from hockey rinks, to ball fields, to skating rinks and track and field days. She was always their biggest fan.
Mom's passing will leave a huge hole in our family. Everyone loved to visit with her and she always had a funny story to share. She was fun and unfiltered and we loved her for that.
Margery is survived by her husband of 61 years, Gary McMurdo; son, Marcel (grandson, Jesse & great-grandsons, Jack and Heath) (grandson, Braden & great-granddaughter, Lainey); son, Dwayne (Danielle); son, Darin (Madonna) (grandchildren, Carter and Taylor); daughter, Nichole (Chad) Baglole (granddaughter, Mercedes (Tyler) and great-grandsons Casey and Lachlan) and (granddaughters, Payton and Shaylee); brother, Wayne Tingey; and many nieces and nephews.
