Marilyn Hazel (Quane) Armstrong

April 24, 1940 ~ June 6, 2022 (age 82)

Obituary

Marilyn Armstrong, 82 years, of Regina, SK. passed away peacefully on Monday, June 6, 2022 at Victoria Park Personal Care Community.

Marilyn was born on April 24, 1940 in Melita, Manitoba, the first of three daughters born to Lawrence (Pop) and Hazel Quane. She grew up and graduated from high school in Melita. Marilyn worked various jobs after high school. She was employed at the Melita Creamery, the Royal Bank, and United Grain Growers in Winnipeg until she married Donald Armstrong of Gainsborough, SK. in September of 1961.

Marilyn and Don had four children: Wendy, Dawn, Allison and Ward. They made their home in Regina until they decided to return to the Melita/Gainsborough area where Don joined his father on the family farm.

Marilyn was a devoted stay-at-home Mom and was happiest when spending time with her family and friends. Sadly the family lost Donald in 1983, way too soon, but Marilyn steadfastly carried on doing her very best to create a happy and loving home.

After all the children moved out, Marilyn decided to move to Regina to be closer to them. She was able to spend more time with them and help out with the grandchildren. She also met David Cutler there and he became her loyal companion until his passing in 2016.

Marilyn suffered from eyesight issues from a relatively young age and later hearing issues and dementia but she never let any of these challenges stop her. She always faced them with courage and never gave up. Although she appeared small and frail, she had a deep, hidden strength. "Keep Calm and Carry On" could have been her motto.

Marilyn was predeceased by her mother and father, Hazel and Pop; her husband, Don; companion, Dave; sister, Verla Driedger; brother-in-law, Harvey; and daughters, Wendy and Allison.

She is survived by her son, Ward; her daughter, Dawn (Kevin) Marr, their children, Shaun (Beth), Jennifer (Jared) [Louie], and Angela; Wendy’s children, Ash Crouch, Kari (Cory) Mapletoft [Zander, Parker], Bethany and Paul (Jhunex); Allison’s daughter, Sara (Connor); her sister, Eleanor (Terry) Jenkins; her sister-in-law, Helen; brothers-in-law, Jim Driedger and Allan Potapinski plus many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

The song has ended but the melody remains.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Victoria Park Personal Care Community in Regina for their wonderful care in Mom’s last few years.

Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society or the CNIB.
