After a long courageous battle with cancer, Richard (Dick) Clair Haughton of Carnduff, Saskatchewan passed away at the Gainsborough & Area Health Centre on Tuesday, December 24, 2024 at the age of 81.
Dick was predeceased by his parents, Clair and Mary Haughton. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Marilyn (neé Heisler), his daughter Penny (Brad) and grandchildren Aurora, Zander, and Everest and his son Paul (Bethan) and grandchildren Sue-Ann, Ashton, Jenneva, and Mya.
A jack of all trades and a master of none (Dick’s words), he helped his Dad on the family farm while working for SaskTel removing the telephone poles and wires in Carnduff and surrounding areas. He operated backhoes and dragline to install water and sewer for farmers, became a Journeyman welder, drove long haul truck all over the United States and Canada, and did carpentry and renovations among many other things. After he retired from farming, Dick assisted Marilyn with her woodworking crafts and spent several years working as the self-proclaimed shop “boss” for Sunset Concrete Construction.
Dick will be remembered for his ability to tell jokes that would make you groan, his redneck fix anything skills, his collection of scrap metal, and how proud he was of his children and grandchildren.
A private interment will be held at the Carnduff Cemetery at a later date.
Donations in memory of Dick may be made to the Gainsborough Health Centre, Box 420, Gainsborough, SK. S0C 0Z0.
