Shirley Miller Obituary

Shirley entered into the presence of her Lord on Saturday, January 13, 2024 at Sunset Haven in Carnduff, SK. after a courageous struggle with Alzheimer's disease. She will be lovingly remembered by her beloved husband of 56 years Brian; children Lisa (Stephen) Macfarlane (Jesse, Aysia, Brianna), Carmen (John) Blankestijn (Adrian, Danielle, Madison), Cara (Mark) Shutt (Emma, Elaina, Matthew) and Nolan (Terralyne) Miller (Mariah, Jade, Travis, Katelyne); sister Joan (Jim) Carnduff; sisters-in-law Daryl Macfarlane, Carley Macfarlane, Lorraine Cummings and Fay (Daryl) Filpula.  She will be missed by all that knew her.

She was predeceased by her parents Harry and Dorothy Macfarlane; brothers Allan and Garth; parents-in-law Wallace and Vera Miller and brother-in-law Garth Cummings.

Shirley was a chosen and cherished daughter of Harry and Dorothy Macfarlane, the youngest sibling to Allan, Garth and Joan.  Her love of the Souris River Valley ran deep and she would spend the decades of her life enjoying its beauty.  As a young woman she accepted the Lord Jesus as her personal Saviour.  She married Brian Miller of Arborfield in 1967.  They spent their early years in Yorkton before moving back to the valley in 1975 and then into Carnduff in 1980.  Shirley was a wonderful homemaker, she was creative and her hands were always busy.  She took great pleasure in gardening and being outside.  She delighted in her children and grandchildren.  They brought her so much joy and their well being was always her greatest concern.  Brian and Shirley loved being together enjoying the simple pleasures of life.  Spontaneous trips on the open road and exploring new places.  A highlight was traveling coast to coast on their Gold Wing.

For twenty years she enjoyed her work at Sunset Haven bringing joy to the residents in her role as activity director.  Shirley was an encourager, a true friend, full of life and had a way of connecting with others, making them feel comfortable and welcome.

The funeral service for Shirley was held at the Gospel Hall (south of Glen Ewen, SK.) on Saturday, January 20, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. with Mr. Norm Thiessen officiating.
