Sylvia Maxine (Coates) Holmes

Mrs. Sylvia Holmes, formerly of Lyleton, passed away at the Melita Personal Care Home on Friday, September 27, 2019 at the age of 82.

Sylvia was born on October 29, 1936 at Melita, MB. She married Glen Holmes on November 20, 1956 in Melita. They moved to Winnipeg for a short time where they both worked at Eaton's. They returned to Lyleton and moved to the farm on October 31, 1958.

Glen and Sylvia farmed and raised their three sons: Calvin, Dwight, and Neil and one daughter, Kathy. Sylvia worked at the Robinsons Store in Melita and the Tommy Boy Foods in Pierson, owned by Gary and Diane Durward, for many years. She enjoyed fishing and camping with her family. She taught her daughter and others how to bake. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, playing cards, completing puzzles, and time spent at the Royal Canadian Legion.

Sylvia is survived by her son, Calvin (Joan) Holmes and their two children, Brett, Staci (Riley Fornwald) (daughter, Remi Wynn); son, Dwight Holmes (Cindy Greenley) and their children, Katie and Jeffery, and his step-children, Alex "A.J.", Ashley, Margaret Greenley and their families; son, Neil (Marj) Holmes and daughters, Jenna, Stephanie, Brittanie (Scott) Manson, and Meagan; daughter, Kathy (Bob) Patterson and their two children, Tyler (Morgan), Cassandra (Matt) Sheffield (their son, Paxton); sister, Frances (John) McCannell and family; sisters-in-law, Audrey Clark and Gloria Holmes and their families; brother-in-law, Gordon (Linda) Holmes and family.

She was predeceased by her husband, Glen on April 20, 1985 and her special friend, Lloyd Gibson; parents, Tom and Ethel Coates; in-laws, Leslie and Winnifred Holmes; brother, Alvin (Margaret) Coates; sister, Joyce (Ervin) Steinwandt; brothers-in-law, Harvey Clark and Royden Holmes; nephew, Brad McCannell.

The funeral service was held at the Lyleton United Church, Lyleton, MB. on Wednesday, October 2, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. with (rev.) Heather Sandilands officiating. The interment followed at the Lyleton Cemetery.
