Thomas Gordon Holden, 76, of Lac La Biche, AB, passed away on Thursday, February 12, 2026 in Edmonton, AB.
Tom was born on January 16, 1950 in Melita, MB, to Jim and Wilhelmina Holden. He was the third son in a family of seven sons and one daughter. Growing up in Napinka he loved playing sports and spending time outdoors. Hockey, curling and baseball were his favorites, later adding golf, fishing and camping. He played, coached and was a constant fan at his kids events.
In 1969 he joined the navy and worked as a sonar operator on Canadian destroyers. Although his navy career lasted only a few years, he had fond memories of it and loved to recall good times. (In 2025 he could still fit into his sailor uniform!) The prairies called him back and he eventually settled in Alberta.
He worked most of his adult life in the oilfield in Edson, Hinton and Athabasca and eventually settled in Lac La Biche. He took courses from the University of Alberta and became an Occupational Health and Safety engineer and worked for Nova (now Trans Canada Pipeline) until he retired.
He loved crosswords, crib and scrabble, loved a good movie and good music. He was a Deacon, an Elder and a Sunday School teacher at his church. He was a loyal Royal Canadian Legion member and a Sergeant-at-Arms. He loved animals especially dogs and had a playful sense of humor.
A devoted family man he was proud to be a father, grandfather and great-grandfather. His siblings were his best friends and he was a beloved uncle and friend to many.
Tom is survived by his children Elan Holden, Edward Holden and Timothy (Vanessa) Holden; grandchildren, Austin Lavallee, Taylor Holden, Dylan Tkachuk, Avery Holden, Andie Holden and Alexis Holden; great-grandchildren, Ashton, Charlotte and Tate. He is also survived by his siblings, Jack (Mary), Pat Holden, Bill (Marilyn) Holden and sister-in-law, Lori Holden; many nieces and nephews and friends.
A graveside service will be held on Father's Day, Sunday, June 21, 2026 at the Napinka Cemetery at 2:00 p.m. Lunch and fellowship to follow at the Napinka Drop-In Centre. All are welcome to attend.
