Velma Campbell Obituary

Velma passed away peacefully at the Gainsborough Health Center on Wednesday July 17, 2024 at the age of 93, with family by her side.

Velma grew up in the Carnduff / Carievale area. She met the love of her life at a dance in Carnduff.  On November 14, 1949 they were married. John and Velma lived on the family farm at Pierson, farming, milking cows and driving school bus. The always enjoyed visits with family and friends, Playing Cards and going to Bingo.

They moved into Pierson in 1983. During these years they enjoyed camping, going on casino trips and spent time socializing, and following grandchildren’s activities when they could, and of course going to Bingo.

In February of 2010 she lost the love of her life. She continued to live in their house until June of 2020, when she moved into the Gainsborough Health Center.  She loved the activities, especially Bingo. The staff were so good to her that they quite often went out of their way to accommodate her requests (demands).

Velma is survived by her four children: Harvey (Diane) Campbell, Leona (Gordie) Bevan, Clarence (Donna) Campbell, and Beverley (Gerald) Penno; six grandchildren: Natasha Bevan, Carey (Michelle) Bevan, Derek (Stephanie) Campbell, Kendra Penno, Kelsey (Scott) Krieger, and Blair (Sarah) Penno; eight great-grandchildren: Lucas & Travan Bevan, Hayden, Dane, Haze, and Stella Campbell, Brayleigh and Lena Penno; Velma, last year, gained three step-granddaughters: Kayla, Samantha, and Morgan and their children. She is also survived by special cousins Ralph and Mary Jane Finch and Diane Rusk, as well as a few other cousins.

Velma was predeceased by her husband of 60 years, John Campbell; parents, Jim and Gertie Cusiter; in-laws, John and Florence Campbell; grandson, Stephen Campbell as well as numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

A service to celebrate Velma’s life was held on Tuesday, July 23, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. from the Pierson Cemetery, Pierson, MB. Lunch followed at the Pierson Hall.
