Eugene William Swick

January 15, 1940 ~ March 26, 2021 (age 81) 81 Years Old

Mr. Eugene Swick of Gainsborough, beloved husband of Irene, passed away peacefully at the Redvers Health Centre, Redvers, SK. on Friday, March 26, 2021 at the age of 81.

Eugene was born in Rosthern, SK. on January 15, 1940, making him the Ukrainian New Year's baby for that year.  He was the eldest of the 3 children. He was the first born grandchild of Yurko & Sophie Michayluk, who emigrated from Ukraine to establish roots for their expansive family line. He attended Kolomyia Country School until the age of 15, at which time his mother passed; with his father also ill, he left school to help run the family farm.

Eugene married Irene Zaleschuk in August 1965. They have 3 children, Denise of Banff, Belinda (Tom) of Calgary, and Sheldon of Toronto.  Eugene started working with the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool in 1964. Throughout his almost 37 years, he was stationed in 8 different towns around the province, retiring in Gainsborough, SK.

Always industrious & wanting to stay in touch with the community, he moved on to the Co-op in Pierson, MB., where he worked until 2019.  He enjoyed gardening, keeping the yard trimmed & clean, music, traveling and always taking the time to visit.

He is survived by his wife and children, as well as his sister, Sylvia (Robert) Osatchuk of Saskatoon. He was predeceased by his mother Mary (1955), his father John (1968), his brother Steve (Cecile) Swick (2011), in-laws, Steve & Josephine Zaleschuk, brother and sister-in-law, Fred & Mary Baschuk, and all but one of his numerous aunts & uncles.

The family wishes to thank the staff at the Redvers Health Centre for their excellent care, and for always warming up his juice.  He was much loved by his many friends and family, and will be missed by all who knew him, and received his smile & wave.

A private family Mass was held at The Most Sacred Heart of Jesus Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, Wakaw, SK. on Thursday, April 1, 2021 at 11 a.m. with Reverend Mykola Romanets officiating.  Interment followed at the Ukrainian Catholic Church of the Patronage of the Blessed Virgin Mary, St. Julien, SK.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Eugene can be directed to the Canadian Cancer Society, 1910 McIntyre St. Regina, SK. S4P 2R3 or charity of your choice.
